I Came All the Way from North Dakota for this...

Check out this piece from Howard Sinker called Cheated by the lineup this will give you a good idea of how I felt about going to Target Field on Sunday.

I brought my parents and my sister to Target Field for the first time on Sunday. They were excited to tour the stadium for the first time and check out all the aspects that they had heard so much about. I was excited too because I love being able to show people around the Twins' beautiful home.

During the middle of my self-guided tour with my family I glanced at the line-up on the board and had to do a double take. Really.... Punto batting lead-off, Mauer is only DHing. This is going to be a long day.

I was more upset for my family. They get their first Target Field experience and it is most of the line-up from Rochester on the field. I understand the need for rest but it is hard to get excited as a fan with that line-up taking the field.

The other person I was upset for was Kevin Slowey. Poor guy shows up at the field to find out that the scrubs are in the game for the day. Bet it was hard for him to get fired up with that team behind him. That definitely showed with the performance he put out there. It also didn't help that Drew Butera couldn't even catch some of the pitches from Slowey. If I was Slowey, I would have wanted to get pulled out of that game as soon as possible too.

It was great to get to show the family around Target Field. But I can't believe I drove all the way from North Dakota for that line-up to be in the game...

Time to Make A Run

With the Rockies coming to Minneapolis tonight to continue Interleague Play, it is time for the Twins to make a run and break away from the rest of the American League Central. The Twins have been battling injuries to most of the infield and that has caused a lot of the line-up to shuffle from game to game. Orlando Hudson should be back for the Rockies series (Twins' Hudson hopes to return Tuesday) and that will make the top of the line-up look better than the Nick Punto- Trevor Plouffe one-two punch from Sunday.

Detroit has been slowly creeping their way back towards the top of the division. Coming off a sweep of the AAA Pirates the Tigers have a three game set with the Nationals. After that they host the AAA Diamondbacks. Detroit sure got the luck of the draw with their National League schedule. This is one of the main reasons the Twins need to make a run. The Tigers are going to be winning games in the next week, so the Twins need to keep pace.

With the Tigers closing in on the division lead it is time for the Twins to step up and take control of the division. The Twins usually feast on National League pitching. Mauer and Morneau are both making a push to start the All-Star Game (Morneau increases lead in All-Star Voting) so this should drive each of them.

It's time to get healthy. It's time to score. It's time to make a run to close out the first half of the season.

Solo Journey to Target Field

I had quite a few firsts last night at Target Field. I was coming down to the Cities to go to the Sunday game against the Braves with my family. My family is staying to go to some of the Rockies series so I had to bring my own car to get back to work on Monday. I decided about half way to Minneapolis that I wanted to go to the game last night.

Problem #1: No ticket. I brought up the Twins website on my phone and found that they have a ticket ordering system for mobile devices. I looked for the best available ticket and at this point it was standing room only. As I got closer to Minneapolis and it got closer to game time the Twins released some more tickets. I got a ticket behind home plate in the upper deck for $30. I didn't figure that was too bad for not having a plan at all.

Problem #2: Road construction. Shortly after I purchased my ticket I ran into a blockade of traffic that held me up. I was getting frustrated cause we weren't going any way. One of the joys of living in North Dakota, even if there is road construction traffic doesn't get backed up as bad in a bigger city.

I have never parked and ran so fast to get into a game. It was fun to be at a game by myself. I got to explore a lot of areas that I wouldn't have normally gone to if I was there with other people. It was also easy to find an open seat in the lower deck and move down.

It was a bad end to the game. Hopefully today goes according to plan...
