During his time with the Twins this season, Plouffe was given the chance to win the starting SS job with the club. His defensive blunders were tough to stomach for the coaching staff and he found himself in the dog house with the manager. Plouffe never got out of that dog house and was sent back to Rochester to work on his defensive skills.
Rochester played a doubleheader on Tuesday night and and Plouffe was in fine form during both games. He started at SS in the first game and at 1B in the evening game. His defense was not an issue on this night and his offense numbers were outstanding for the two game set.
Game 1: 2-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 1 BB
Game 2: 1-1, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, 3 BB
The Twins need to find room for Plouffe on the 25-man roster. He has proven that he is superior to the pitchers at the minor league level. The Twins have been carrying an extra catcher since the return of Joe Mauer and that was a good move at the time. But now that Mauer has shown he can catch on a consistent basis, it is time for one of those catchers to be sent back to Rochester.
Stat Summary for July
BA: .400
HR: 4
RBI: 7
R: 5
OBP: .520
SLG: 1.000
OPS: 1.520
Plouffe knows he missed a huge opportunity during the first part of this season. He has taken out his anger on the pitchers of the International League. He deserves a second chance to show the Twins the value he has with the Twins.
I'm sure the pitchers in the International League will be grateful for his return trip to Minnesota.

I'm all for giving Plouffe another (he's had more than two) chance, but probably at a different position. He's never really looked like a big league SS, and that might be what has been holding him back. If he fits somewhere else, it's a win-win.
