Look closely at the person in the picture because I think Topps made a mistake. I might be completely off of my rocker but take a look for yourself.
Who is the player in the picture?
Some clues to help you solve this case:
1. Plouffe wears Under Armor batting gloves
2. Plouffe's bat has been colored (bat in lower corner of card)

1. Butera has used Nike batting gloves
2. Butera uses a wood colored bat

Am I right in making this assumption or am I totally off base?

If you google Drew Butera and scroll down far enough you will find a picture of a Bundt Cake, http://knuckleballsblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/bundtcake2.jpg, which is neither Drew Butera or Trevor Plouffe. Food for thought.
You're right that it's Drew Butera; however, I would to make one small correction:
Plouffe does bat with his black bat a majority of the time but he is known to bat with his wood colored one occasionally. I've noticed it when someone is on base and he really needs a base hit or if he's in a slump.
Here's a video of him using a wood colored bat.

The more important thing to notice is that Plouffe wears an ankle protector on his left ankle in every single at bat.
Thanks to everybody for all of the help in cracking the case
I was at Twinsfest and had Butera autograph that same card for me. He said it is him and that he has seen it before.
