2012 MLB Draft Profile: Carlos Correa
Name: Carlos Correa
School: Puerto Rico Baseball Academy (High School)
Accolades: Baseball America's No. 6 rated player in the 2012 Draft, MLB.com's No. 5 rated Draft Prospect
The Rundown: Correa is likely to become the highest drafted player from the island of Puerto Rico when his name is called on Monday night. His defensive skills are outstanding and there seems to be no doubt that he will be able to stick at shortstop during his career. On the offensive side of the ball, he packs a lot of power at the plate and he projects to be an above-average hitter. Besides Buxton, he should be the second high school position player taken off the board.
Twins Impact: The Twins held a special workout for the 17-year old infielder at the team's complex in Fort Myers, FL as they try to narrow down who they will select with the No. 2 pick. Unless the Twins were blow away by Correa in this outing, it seems like he might be a stretch for the second pick in the first round. There seems to be other players the Twins would take before Correa but he could be a dark horse for their first round selection.
The Word on the Street: "He's one of those guys that comes along once in a long time. The sky is the limit with this kid and you could not wish for anything but the best for him. He's an even better person than he is a player and he deserves everything he gets," said Puerto Rico Baseball Academy Director Carlos Berroa.
